Awesome shot Jurgen.
The lighting is superb on his face and front of his body. Nice details captured on his face and clothing.
I really like this one
yea, really nice shot, i really like the effect of the sparks glow on his front and the darkness in the back. I also really like how the dark background makes him stand out more, overall its a really nice shot...though i am mainly drawn away from the sparks and shading by his expression, i dont know, i cant explain it.. ...
Thanx all for your comments....This image is an oldy...I was commissioned by a steel company to shoot the installation of a mill housing...While I was waiting for the crane to lift the housing into place this guy started oxy cutting nearby...I spun around and only managed to crack one frame on him..
If I remember clearly it was shot handheld at 30th second...Film Kodak TriX 400 (still the best B/W film know to photography)

This is one of your better ones. I have never heard it called oxycutting though. Great exposure, how did you get it so clear at 1/30th and no tripod???

Greg,,,,steady hand,,heaps of practise and whole lot of luck...Everyone must try to handhold as slow a shutter speed as possible just as an exercise,,,,you will be amazed how slow you can go especially with wide angle lenses..I use to be able to go down as slow as 15th sec with a 20mm wide angle on my Nikons with sharp results..

Good photograph Jurgen! Reminds me of W. Eugen Smith's industrial photography 50 years ago. Some enhancement of detail in the background might really add to the weight of the negative space. That of course could just be a problem with the scale and the fact it on a screen as opposed to a print which I would like to see.
Wow! Thats great! The lighting is perfect, the subject is ignoring the camera, But I think it'd be slightly better in Color, Not that you can change that, but you get the point.
Canon Digital Rebel with Quantray 19-35 F3.5-4.5 basically Glued on. :P
is anyone else getting lightness on the left side of the photo? Probably just from the scan, but this is an awesome image! kudos to this one! for fun, have you tried bringing it in PS and throwing some colors into the sparks? It could look cool if done correctly.
