    Outside

I was outside, bored and anxious at the same time!!! So I pick up my camera.

    Does this work for anybody?

    C&C appreciated!

    Re: Outside

Veggie - I think parts of it are good. It strikes me as a good pattern shot. I'm not sure that the out-of-focus parts are good: it might have worked better if it was 100 percent in focus.

As for the pattern, I hope you don't mind, but I tried a quick graphic of what I mean. I just copied part of it and repeated it a few times. What do you think? I think it appears as one of the expensive bricks.

    Re: Outside

Veggie, i know what you mean about being bored and going out to shoot anything. This sometimes opens up new doors of creative thinking. I think you found some good subject, but the out of focus portions are not helping. If your going to shoot very close up for textures and details, it helps to shoot a subject area that is somewhat flat and use a small aperture to achieve sharpness throughout the image. Also, a subject with more distinguishable textures can help it stand up better in the photo.
Personally, i'm not too crazy about what GB has done but he has opened up some more possibilities for you.

    Veggie,

The thing that's spoiling this for me is the lack of shadows to highlight the rough texture. It even gives the impression of fill in flash because I would have expected more shadow from the light coming from the bottom left.

    Thanks for the comments.

I agree with you, now that I look at it again.
I think I will try again today, and see if I can get something with shadows and more focus.

GB: that for the idea. In this case though, I liked the texture of the bark, and I find it gets lost. I think that would work great for a patch of sky though (another of my projects)
