    Our Park

I have been out with the Holga (a dangerous but lovable animal) a lot over the past couple of years but this is the first result I have posted here.
Does this type of stuff do anything for you?

    Re: Our Park

    Hi Tom .. here's an essay ....

You and I move in more or less the same photographic circles and we both know how the expectations of 'club photography' (at least in our neck of the woods) tends to force people into producing nice clean, carefully composed, sharp and noise free images, all perfectly printed and all conforming to the received wisdom of what a first-class image should look like.

And BoŁŁocks to that, I say!

The beauty of a Holga is that it is immediate and unpredictable. The images it produces obey none of the laws, and hence have a kind of beauty all their own. So, yes, your Holga pictures do 'float my boat'.

In my better moments I do tend to push the boundaries a little, and I think sometimes how much better club life would be if we, and judges, allowed a little more room for just the sheer exhileration of image making, whether with compacts, phones, or Holgas.

Why don't we more often? Why don't I?

    Cowardice, pure and simple.

    Cheers
    Mike

PS - it WAS a short essay

Personally I have always liked a Holga. I only ever use one once when I was at Shepherds hospital. The art teacher pushed me around in a wheel chair and let me use hers. I brought the film home and later had it devloped. I think these work well together Tom.

    Thanks very much men.
Mike; I'm with you. Often it's the very image that is forgotten about.

Why do these pictures look like bad memories?

    Re: Our Park

It's artsy alright. They DO seem like a memory, but somehow they DO seem like bad ones I believe it's because of the torn tennis net - depicting abandonment - and the tilted ground - which seems odd. The swing is OK but the missing person makes it seem like a child has just disappeared or was abducted (someone just came by and stole the baby right out of the seat ... yikes).

All that being said, I think these invoke a lot of emotion.
