    Orton Butterfly

I've always been intrigued by the high dynamic range effect. Thanks to this forum I discoved the Orton effect, which to me at least, seems to be a very similar effect. This was created by blending 3 layers - the original, an overexposed layer and a blurred layer.

I've tried it on a few photos now and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This is my favorite so far. Comment and criticism, please.

One problem I see with this are the light splotches in the background. I actually didn't really notice it until I posted here.

Good job. This is a staple of my technique. This is nicely done. Nice if the whites were a bit less blown, but not a major problem.

Thanks for the encouragement, daq7. The more I play with this the more I realize that proper exposure, or even underexposure, is key in getting a good effect. I don't like the shot as much as the other, but the exposure is better in this one.
