Nice set of pics, and you capture the emotion brilliantly

The third is best because the focus is sharpest on the eyes.

    Gizzymo,

Beautiful images, but I would have never known this was an African orphanage. By removing the subjects from their context, you are essentially taking away any ability for the images to tell a story. They are very nice photos, but they lack what's necessary to effectively communicate the location and situation. One thing I ask myself is if the images can communicate at least a rough idea of what's going on without the need for cutlines. If they can't, I look for something else.

    Re: Orphanage in Lesotho, Africa

I agree totally, thanks for pointing it out With the photos in question I was practicing portraits etc and was not attempting to show that they were from an orphanage, however I implied that with the topic title and should have labeled the topic differently...

    Thanks again

Ah, I understand. Take my comments for what they're worth based on my assumptions.

As portraits, the one that I think is the weakest but could have been the most powerful is the second one. Great moment that would made an excellent photo had you gotten more of the child's expression.

I love the connection with he subject in number 4.
