    Oriental Woodcut

I rather like the textures in this subject the way the early morning sun licked across the face of the woodcut.

I think this would be an antique woodcut used to print ancient documents on to rice paper.

i really enjoy the composition and the lighting
the way the lines from each block are at an angle and it works so well for this photo
i like the way the morning light licks the letters

    Re: Oriental Woodcut

I like this. I definitely stared at it for a while, though I am still having a hard time articulating why I like it. I think it's the characters that I like, the lighting and the contrast brought about by the angle of light. Thay really seem to jump off my screen. In fact, they almost look like they're the height of buildings!

There is something bothering me about it too. Is it a touch blurry? I almost get the feeling of motion blur with this. Like a 1/15 shutter or something. If you have the chance to shoot this again, I would definitley burn a roll on it, working all the angles and compositions. It is a great subject.

    Re: Oriental Woodcut

I have to agree with walterick that the photo suffers from some blur...and for a simple picture like this it takes a lot away.
However, this has great lighting...you got that nailed. The composition is good, I like the slight angle and how one line has no characters on top and bottom. Very Cool.

    Cheers.

oh, and I second what walterick said...burn a roll of film on this...maybe B&W
I'm always mentally photographing everything as practice.

    Re: Oriental Woodcut

As Walter pointed out, the blur is distracting. Other than that, this shot is a 10 for me. The semi-pattern affect, the break in the pattern, and the colors are superb! Definately a great shot and a keeper!

    Well done,

    Jared
