    Oregon Rocks

This one is a bit plainer than the others and is also vertically centered, but that may actually play in its favor. Comments?

I like the effect of the evening sun on the background haze. Perhaps you could crop some of the left and bottom. Is a very nice shot though.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I actually like the softness of the light in this one better.
In many cases the expanse of plain foreground would be a minus but I don't think so in this case and would not crop it.

thks fellows. Yes it is barren but I sort of feel like frog that it is part of the shot's feeling. Thanks Joe. I am just depating to head back south and see a friend in Oakland. This was takena t Bandon. Tues was a wash (literally) with heavy rain and clouds , but I may have gotten a keeper or two.

    Re: Oregon Rocks

Great shot! I think the simplicity and even the centered horizon do work in the shots favor. I thought there was only one minor distraction, that the dark tones were not quite dark enough, I thought a slightly silhouetted effect would work well in this shot. I tried an edit, darkened curves and added a very slight downward black gradient on the top. You cant see as much detail in the sand in this one and maybe that hurts it, hmm...

That is a very cool shot GB...I guess this one is part of a series of pics which I haven't seen yet (I have gazillion threads to look at after my week of absence LOL).
The light and composition are very appealing, and to be honest I can decide which one I like the most....the original has a nice softness to it, but the PP´ed one has its pros too. The original looks more natural... almost film and the other one more "digital"

    Re: Oregon Rocks

Anbesol, thanks or taking a whack at it. I agree with Rob both are superior in different ways. Your version has more contrast and 'punch' that immediately catches the eye. The trade off is of course less detail in the dark areas. I like both myself.

What I find a bit odd about this shot (both our versions) is the way the sky has some sort of course gradient instead of smooth transition of color. It is almost like a PP filter effect was used and it shows. Maybe the intense sunlight just out of the frame does that.

Rob, I have a zillion to look at myself. Maybe tomorrow, when I am sitting here recovering.

Paula - Thanks and glad you caught the title riddle (noticed it after I made the post ).

    Re: Oregon Rocks

GB1 - dealing with web res jpegs though, I bet it would show smoother gradients on a full res print.

Just got done looking at your HDR one, I think I like the sand better on that one, and the sky better on this one - I think merely for the more contrast of a warm glow and its banding into a bluish glow. Enhancing that is the warm reflecting sand and puddle that really balances the graduations of the sky. I'm a sucker for those warm skies.

*edit - scratch that, its a tough call but I think this one is the all in all favorite of mine. Very good series!
