The first one has too many people for me. I popped it into photshop and magically disappeared all but the blue middle person, then took her out too. (still amazed at that clone tool!) I like just the bridge with the scenery peeking through the "windows".
The second one is my favorite.
    The third one is nice.
The fourth one kinda hurts my eyes.

Thanks for looking and giving your honest opinion. I guess it isn't apparent but the forground and girl is b & w and everything on the other side of the bridge is in color. I made some during the day without any people in the openings and thought it would be kind of cool to include them here, since they just happen to place themselves perfectly. How cooperative! I love the clone tool also, couldn't live without it. I took some great pics of houses where I was and had to clone a realtor sign out of almost everyone. I mean BIG signs, right up front. Sorry bout hurting your eyes, it hurts mine too. lol I took that late at night from my 7th floor hotel room. It was cool looking from the room, but may not translate to those who don't have the memory of it. Thought I'd throw it in to see the reaction. I appreciate your taking the time and value your opinion.

I like the seperate pictures within the first picture. I think I want more space on the left of the second shot. What was your reason for graying out the foreground on the first one?

With the third photo, which I think of as "Lonely person on beach", for me this is improved by removing some of the extraneous "information" at the bottom of the shot. In fact, if you take a very "widescreen" approach, and take out all the sky, making the background just sea, I think that might work as well.

It is wonderfully atmospheric, i like it very much.

Oh geez, my brain didn't even register the color/b&w combo. Guess it was busy thinking "nice bridge, lose the people".
I also like the idea of taking a little off the top and a little off the bottom of the lone person to go panarama style with it. (Wish I was closer to a beach like that!)

Very nice images. Let me address each on it's own.

    1) I really like the first one with the bridge. I like how each "window" stands on it's own. Images withon an image. I think the B&W vs. color approach is a good one. Nice, created approach.

    2) Pictures of a baby playing on the beach is a "cute" winner in my book any day of the week. Given that, let's look at some of the more technical aspects. The image is very sharp. Even with the small resolution, I can pick up highlights on the sea foam. It may be a little too bright just behind the young lady, but this is nothing that can't be taken care of in PS.

    3) I really like this image. Would love to see it in B&W. I agree about going "widescreen". I think this would make a good stock photo. (which make me wonder how may web designers lurk this site for images)

    4) Too. Too. Bright.

    Hey Shesells,
I hope you didn't get too blown out by this Hell of a Hurricane season that has been coming our way.Good to see you up and posting.
I like the third shot the best. It is excellent and is extremely marketable, I think. The second is nice, a good moment captured and framing and crop is fine with me. The first one, I think I would like without the selective desaturating. Would like to see the whole image as b&w. The last one I don't like as it just looks blown out, without mood or feeling. . .I don't feel anything from it.
please do not edit and repost my photos

My fave is the third one too, for the same reasons. Marketable, good mood, simple, effective story, sharp and clear, good color; anyone could use this picture commercially for any number of reasons. You don't have a Model Release on that one, do you? Or, if not, are you a writer at all? If so, write an article around that image and try to sell the picture and story.

    Replies..

Chunk: I wanted what you like (separate pics under bridge) to be the main subject, so I
thought desaturating the forground would make it obvious that the girl was not the
subject even though she was the biggest thing in the shot. I don't know, I guess I
thought I was being clever. Apparently it didn't work. lol

Mattp: I'm very interested in your idea of the widescreen. Never thought of that. Do you mean
the way it looks when you scroll up and hide the whole sky? Or something else?
I always watch movies in widescreen when I can because I love that look, what a
good idea to bring it to photos. Thanks!

Kerriann: Would you mind giving me a "dumbed down" explaination of your idea for
panarama style for that first shot? I don't know what you mean by a little
off the top and bottom of the girl. Thank you by the way!

Todd: Could you be any nicer? #2 lighting can definately be fixed in PS since it was the
lighting filter! lol It was kind of boring and no highlights so I guess I went to far. Is
it too sharp too? #3 that's a scary thought! I'm surprized that this shot would be
wanted. How can one avoid this? make the pics real small? #4 What do you mean
by "too too bright"? What a whimp! lol

gahspidy: Thanks for asking, I did ok in the hurricane, and had a great trip out of it.
Thats a good idea to go all b & w with the first one, I'll give it a try, even
though I'm not that good at it. I'll play around with it, thanks for the suggestion.
As for the last shot..what? I'm so shocked! you must have no feelings! heh,
kidding! It's just a blow out basically.

Kelly: Thanks for liking my shot. No, I don't have a release, I never thought it would even
be a decent shot. For some reason, I never think of selling any of my stuff. I guess
it's for the same reason that I have a closet full of paintings that no one has
ever seen! I do like to write a bit but again, just for myself. I'm going to work on
a plan to try and market something. Thanks for encouraging me in that way.

Chunk again: I didn't even think the gull was apparent in this small resolution. Good title, I'll give you a cut if it sells.

Thanks everyone so so much, your help is invaluable!

On the contrary, I think it did work.

Just as you say, was imagining the third shot as it would look if you scroll up and hide the sky (and take a little off the bottom).

Without the horizon line the sea becomes more "epic" to me, like a wall of water that I can imagine continuing forever in a way which is even more impressive than the reality. I love the way as well that the reflection behind the figure spotlights them quite subtly - the whole effect is very cinematic, which was why I thought of it being "widescreen" rather than panoramic. Wish I'd taken it! Look forward to seeing more.

Sorry to be confusing. I was actually trying to agree with the post directly above mine from mattp regarding Picture #3 where "lone person" should have read "lonely person...." as he called her.
(Taking a little off the top and bottom of the girl would leave only her torso and that might look a little odd.)

    it could work...?

Sheshells, I saw your post last night and wanted to put my .02 in....but had login problems...

but I'm gonna go ahead and tell you anyway.
Image #1 I think this is a wonderful, very creative idea, but i see this....... a bridge that's a little more asthetically pleasing... with people in each "window" it creates... and maybe the foreground is not the main focus, but I think it should be pleasing as well... Picture the little girl in your image #2 playing in the foreground.....So that the reaction would be " oh what a cute little girl" then upon second inspection, you start to notice the other things in the "windows" and how they create their own little scene as well......kinda like a painting by Salvador Dali... there's always more than meets the eye.... Okay, maybe or maybe not.....but just to see i merged the two very quickly in PS and will ***try** to attach. oh, and i love Image #4, not. OH, hope you dont' mind me merging your photos... hee hee..

Damn I love it! You are good! Brilliant idea, wish I had thought of it. I use to combine pics constantly in web design and graphic art but when I got serious about photography I tried not to. I really don't see any reason why not though. Thanks for the idea, i think it looks much better that way.

good, doubt it... it was mostly a brain misfunction... Doesn't happen that often. Enjoy while it lasts. But i know what you mean, photography with too much manipulation... well it becomes more like digital "art" (term used lightly), But people take double exposures all the time, and photos are merged in photo labs, so I don't think it makes it "not" a photo.... Just my thought on the subject....
