Here is a photograph I took during a recent trip in Yosemite. Please let me know what you think!

    Cheers,

So peaceful looking. I like it a lot. Except, of course, for that hangy down stick in the middle. Clone tool to the rescue!!!

Thanks for your post... I was actually debating whether to remove this dead branch or not before posting...

    Cheers,

    Steph.

    Memories...

It is a beautiful photo and I love Yosemite. I was thinking the other day I need a hand held laser to zap branches like that in real life, save work in photoshop... ;)

I really like how this is framed with the branches. I agree that the stick needs to go. The sky could be a little darker -- maybe a polarizer next time?

I simply must visit the national parks some day.

    Hi Todd,

Actually I did use a polarizer and an off-body flash unit to give a bit of life to the pine tree. The biggest problem was (as you mentioned) the boring blue sky and the overall haziness. I used the tree just to get something to fill in the overwhelming emptiness of the sky (in these situations I also often use a split ND filter to block the sky further, but the uneveness of the horizon prevented me to do so). It was also high noon which really did not help!

    Thanks for your comments!

Nice shot but the sky and haze is way too purple and we don't like fake colors in out shots or do we?

I took it yesterday in Photoshop and got rid of it all and the image looked a lot better. Give it a try and you'll be amazed ;)

    Dear All,

It seems that everybody agrees that the branch needs to go! So here it is without it. In a way I kinda miss it now... I guess I got used to it!

I've left a little bit of the branch to add a little something to this extremely boring blue sky. Gosh, sometime you just miss the clouds!

Steph, I think that little piece of branch is more distracting than the original, so I agree with lava about that. It's wonderful dof and looks 3dish to me also. If you could unpurple (scientific term) the top fo the sky a bit it would look more natural, if natural is what you're after.

Thank you everyone for your feeback.

Elysian and Shesells: I will be following your advices and try to remove that redish cast in the sky. Thank you.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

I have seen this formation in Outdoor Photographer before, and Must say, I enjoy your photo much more! Would like to see a completed version of it, minus the leafless twig and the Jimi Hendrix sky!

Also, I wanted to add something as well : I feel that the lighter sky area ( above the formations on the right) adds to this photo.... IOW - My eye is draw in by the foreground, then goes to El Capitan, then it is taken over to the other rock formations on the right, I feel ( had the sky not been gradiated as it is here) that they would not have garnered as much attention from me. Good work, and good Foreground!

Thanks for comemting below. This is pretty and almost 3D. I think the hanging brach helps draw you in, maintaining the 3D effect.
