    Oostanaula River

I have been practicing on my landscape shots. Putting something in the forground to give my shots depth. Also shooting from out of the shadows and into the light. I metered my camera to the rocks on the right when I took these. This is the Oostanaula river.

    Re: Oostanaula River

Greg, having a foreground subject for landscapes is generally a sound practice. But that FG subject "should" be specific and complement the background subject. In the first image, the FG is somewhat "loose" and disorganized.

In the second image, I'm looking at the little flower in the shadow. I would have keyed in on that. Difficult though as it is in the shadow and the background is so bright. Perhaps wait an hour for the flower to be the sunlight.

    Re: Oostanaula River

    Greg,

I'm with Loupey on the composition. The other porblem I have with the photo is the time of day - it looks like high noon from the shadows - landscape is normally better done late evening or early morning which gives you much better light which brings out the colours.

These look to washed out because of the time of day.

A polarizing filter could have helped these even at this time of day.

On the bottom photo the rock in the centre breaks the flow of the photo which makes you jump over the top if that makes sense. It would have been better if the rock was not centred but off to the left to help lead the eye into the photo.

The top photo compositionally is much better in that the eye is lead down the river.

    Hope that helps
