    Which one or none

    Hi Folks.
Took a trip to a cemetery today. It was a surprisingly peaceful place, except for the rain...

Anyway, Here are two pics one with some pp and the other nothing.
    Which one or none..CC thanks.

I would say the top. just by looking at the palm tress and the tombstones.

This shot would look good if you try to convert to a HDR

I'd pick the second one. I like the mood it shows.

Besides, the first one has too much white fringe showing here and there.

Javier - I understand what you were going for in the PP'd one but I think one of the rules of post processing is that the viewer must not know you did it. It's definitely showing here with that white fringe, so, .. back to the drawing board on this one. I've noticed that some shots can be edited and some simply can't (within a reasonable amt of time, unless you're stranded on a deserted island..). The ol' graduated ND filter might have been good in this situation (..though maybe not).

Bad weather's a great time to shoot huh !!

Thanks for the comments. Perhaps I will try an HDR.

    AE and GB
Thanks for the comments. I too liked the second photo which is why I posted both. I agree with the white fringe as it was really bugging me also. The biggest issue I was having with this particluar photo is most of my pics came out with blown skys and that was what I was trying to capture. I ended up having to really stop down to try and get a balance and then bring up the pic in PP. I should have used a polarizer I think? We don't often have bad weather here so when we do, I need to get out more and shoot.

J - No I don't believe a polarizer would have done anything for this shot: they work best in sun and when it's at (or near) a 90 degree angle to the area you're photographing. I think a graduated neutral density filter would be your best bet.

I should give you mine.. I have one but keep forgetting to use it !

    Re: Which one or none

I like the second as well. As noted the evidence of editing hurts. you could just dodge very casually some light into the fg, but not much. i like your framing of this scene and the sky is working a gloom very nicely.
So, you were surprised that it was a peaceful place? lol
    Good shot, Javier

Actually, that cemetary has a rep for being ''very haunted'' ..There was even a documentary on it on cable. That is actually what drew me to it....

    Re: Which one or none

I like #2 as well but think you should clone the headstone in the lower left like you did on #1. This would be a great place to practice, peacefully, on some compositional skills. I think the last large building would make a great B&W but you should have moved over an left the large stone on the left out of the shot. If you could get the angle right maybe use the road to lead into the shot. Make it spooky and moody......
