This is a great photograph Emily, the way you have managed to achieve a really sharp focus through the cage and not only incorporate the bars into the image but to work them neatly into the hair of the monkey delivers a really impressive end result, The colour matches perfectly and I think that you have a super photograph here.

    Thanks for sharing

Superb photo, brilliantly captured, this sums up why I don't like going to the zoo.

This is one you should try and sell, or even send to the animal charities.

You may want to check the zoo's website. Most zoo's prohibit commercial use of photos of the animals. You can use them for portfolio, and private use though.

However, in this one, it may be difficult for anyone to determine where, when, and exactly which animal it was.

The problem exists because some animals are the main attraction, mascots, or already in commercial use by the facility. Say for example, at SeaWorld, you could probably make commercial use of most photos, with the exception of Shamu.

Sad, but not defeated. That's how I see his eyes. Great shot too. I wonder how it would have looked if the bars were a tad more in focus... that might have reinforced the feeling of captivity also. But still very very good. I look the composition btw

Wonderful shot Emily. I think the message is strong and conveyed very well here. Very nice.

I think the cage ruins the photo also the reflection in the eyes is too dark and unclear for a warm feeling shot of an animal. Also i can see the photographer in the eyes. The colors are good. Also would like to see more of the mouth.

Re: One Day I'll Get Out...

Sorry, forgot to add my thoughts..lol

The reflection of the photog doesn't bother me, although in big print it may be really obvious. However, as stated before, it would probably only be able to be for personal use. Therefore, it isn't an issue. I like the sad look in it's eyes, and it certainly has a "defeated" look. It took me a long time to get the title (but I am slow like that ), but it conveys the message quite well for me. The bars in focus is a neat idea, but if you are still using a p&s, it may have been difficult to focus on both the bars and animal. Then again, I have seen you pull off some stuff with a p&s I wouldn't even try.

    Nice shot.

Re: One Day I'll Get Out...

Leels, Themage, & payn817...thank you all for your feedback on this.

    Leels, again, thank you.

Themage, I'm sorry the cage doesn't work for you, etc. Even as the person who took the pic though, I can't really agree that it "ruins" the photo, as without the cage present, the meaning is different, at least to me. Thanks though for the thoughts on it.

Payn, thank you for your feedback re: the reflection & cage bars being in focus v. out of focus. I'm actually using a Canon Rebel now, but I really appreciate the compliment re: past photos.
