    Oliver

This is a shot I took last night of my cat playing around in a shopping bag. At first I was really happy with it but, now I'm not sure if there is too much dead space or not. What do you guys think? Should it be cropped in more?

the subject has a lot of potential, but I think it shoud be cropped in more. I think if you had gotten much closer and almost inside the bag (without the little bugger attacking you, I know how my cat is) then the composition would be much stronger. It's a very cute cat!

I definitely agree. Your subject just isn't taking up enough of the frame for this to be as effective as it could be. Also, I usually don't have a problem with a dead-center subject (ie, I do it all the time), but it doesn't work for me in this case.
On the plus side, I like the effect of the cat emerging from the darkness. Nice touch.

    Re: Oliver

Hi guys. Thanks for the input. This was a rather rushed shot unfortunately I wish he would have stayed put. Managed to pop off about 5 shots before he jumped out. The lens I had on was a 20-35mm. I tried getting closer but, the little guy tagged me twice...LOL How would you guys have framed this shot? If I go to the right, it would "explain" the shot clearly showing him in a bag or if I go to the right it would make his expression more dramatic or would you be better off cropping down both sides or....? Feel free to edit this shot with how you would have done it. As always, thanks for the input everyone

    Re: Oliver

IMHO I'd like more to the right so it showed the whole or more of the bag. If you can lighten the outside of the bag without lightening the inside I think it would be good.
I have a lot of trouble shooting my cat, too. Bless her!

I like the shot... but I am biased because I love cats. I would have cropped in on the cat a bit more, but I realize how much of a pain cats can be when trying to get there photo.
