I like the composition a lot and I like the parts of the image that are lit just fine but the pure black sky makes the image as a whole too dark.
If you shoot something like this within about a half hour after the sun has set the sky will be a deep rich blue (depending on how long after sunset you shoot) and the boat would be outlined agains that beautiful sky.
That's a really pretty boat and the photo itself is full of detail and very interesting. Intially I found it stunning but also that the boat was too dark, but that may be just to do with there being too much darkness on a whole. It would be good to see how it looks with a nice sky as the last poster said.
oh crap, i guess you're not in Japan anymore. Didn't read that bit. Either way, a really unique and pretty boat. No wonder it looks so colourfull and different.
