    Old -> New

    I found an old shot of my late dad in an African economy conference back in the 60's or 70's complete with the translating/hearing aids provided at that time.

    I've tried to imagine what the scene was like and did colour it and clean it up.
    Does it work for you? How do the colours look on your monitor?

    Liban,
    Very good job in your adding color and cleaning the picture. Looks fine. Personally, though, I like the old tone and faded look of the original picture and just cleaning it would work great for me.
    Good work.

    Great job! I'm with Gary, though. While you've done a wonderful job, I think the original is just perfect.

    Thanks a lot. I appreciate all the kind words.

    My mom actually flipped out when she saw this. She isn't very "techy" and couldn't believe it when she saw it (she's very familiar with the old shot). She thought it was some sorta magic, lol.

    But for some reason, I wasn't very satisfieds with the tones of the colour image and that's why I posted it to see if it worked for you. I'm not very satisfied with anything I do, really. lol. To me it still looks like a coloured shot, sorta like the coloured B&W films (I'm not sure if you guys seen any), just not absolutely natural.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks sweet.

    That's a great catch. I would have never noticed that even though it's so prominent now that you've told me about it.

    Thanks.

    I see why and how you'd like the original tones, they're just so classic. And I do agree with you now. I've converted the original to B&W to do the retouching becuase I've always had the idea of colouring it (and not preserving the original tones) from the gitgo. But I took the B&W and tried to bring it back to it's formal sepia tone. Here's how the shot looks after a clean up only, sans the colouring.

    Thanks for your feedback, it's been great as usual.

    I like both the color and B&W repaired versions. Though the B&W is very nice, the color version you've created is remarkable.

    That's very similar to what I was refering to when I was talking about coloured movies as well. I guess it's quite natural that they turn out this way. Thanks.
