    Old Mill

I drive by this mill everyday on the way to work and have never been quite sure on how to capture it. This was shot with the Canonet and TMax 100. Film was processed in HC-110 dil. H for 10 minutes. I think I might have overdeveloped the film a bit so the contrasting isn't the best (it was hot and I was impatient... lesson learned ) Anyways, which composition do you think works best or do you have a suggestions on a different framing? Thanks in advance for any input.

I think these are both good comps, Aaron. I like the straight on view of the second shot, but I also like the first with the smoke stack filling the part of the sky.
your contrast and tones look good also.
The second shot just needs to be cleaned of the dust and specs . . .
    Good work

Thank Gary I need to reshoot this one anyway so no worries on the dust for now. Speaking of dust and cat hair, never regretted having cats until trying to scan negs on a flatbed at 4800dpi... DOH! :mad2: You're killing me with that scanner you have for sale!...LOL

The second shot is too static (or dead) for me. The first image has potential but I would like to see the camera turned a bit to the right to get rid on some of the empty space on the left and to include the side of the building.

BTW I am not sure this is the best use of B&W.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Old Mill

Thanks MB1 I'll try a little more to the right next time I stop there. As for the B&W, That is all I'll be shooting for a while with the exception of some slide film here an there. Once I get more comfortable with processing and shooting b&w, I'll give C-41 a shot

ditto for the observations. the first one has more "character" to me. the second seems like those old shots we had of our school hanging up by the headmasters office (which i had to visit far too often), so perhaps that's why it's a negative for me.

Thanks again threelions I'm hoping we can get some good cloud formations sometime here so I can reshoot this with some more depth. I'll stick with the angled view though as I wouldn't want to be reminded of school either...LOL

    Re: Old Mill

I think the second one would have worked if it weren't for the trees which unbalance it on the left. So, I go with the majority here and plump for the first.

    Cheers
