    Re: The Old Manor HDR

The framing, and composition are very nice, however I think the whole HDR effect is over done, making the effort look artificial, and hard. Of course as a dedicated film fanatic I am not a huge fan of HDR, especially those that are as obvious as this one. I would suggest that you tone the HDR back a bit to acheive a great photograph. Just my opinion.

Very good detail , no halos or ghosting anywhere, even around the flag , the light on the clouds is great !

The tree in the foreground blocking a large part of the building leaves me wanting to see more.

The only thing that concerns me is the abrupt color change from the first floor to the second - much darker up top. Other than that, great composition and perspective

Extremely nice for an HDR. Looks rendered in the best of ways.

Yeah, how did you pull that off? What's the trick to eliminating halos in HDR work?

I agree the big bush hurts the composition. It is hiding to much of the main subject.

Nothing mentioned above bothers me, except maybe the color disparity in the upper and lower story. I love this look -- it's like a combination between very realistic painting and a photo. Art - I would say. The one thing that does bother me is the right structure seems to lean -- but I guess that is that distortion thing I don't know much about.

    Re: The Old Manor HDR

Hey fellas, always nice to hear your comments...............I had hoped that i had not gone over the top, quite obviously a HDR but hopefully not those nuclear colors or halos etc. that I am not a fan of.

As regards not getting halos, keep the strength slider in Photomatix below 70%, yes I see what some of you have mentioned re. the difference in light between the upper and lower floors, might have to get the dodge tool out to hopefully correct this.

Great image. I like photos that are HDR processed and you did a great job on this one.

Way cool! I do see the point about the first vs second floor lighting issue. I think this photograph would make an interesting jigsaw puzzle. There are several sites that will turn photos into puzzles. (If the puzzle suggestion makes any purists cringe, just blame it on my pedestrian upbringing.)

    Re: The Old Manor HDR

I like it a lot. I do a lot of HDR and had I don this it would have looked similar but not as good. I think the advice to create less disparity in the first and second floors is good, but I am not sure how to do it with the tools available. Were I to try it I might take one of the untouched exposures and blend it back into the original. But I still have this general problem to solve as well. It is a very good shot as it is, but finding how to please the non-hdr crowd is part of the trick...
