    The Old Lady

I promised myself that I would try more street photography this year. So with that said, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.....

    Greg,
Good choice of subject of the lady with her plaid pull-along bag.

The photo overall is weakened for me by the reflection of the other person immediately behind her, almost as if she has two heads. The lack of the camera being parallel to the store fronts, most visible in the bricks on the walk and the top of the frame 'sloping' to the right is another technical issue for me.

It would be more complete by seeing all of the Green, Red, and Yellow lettering beginning El Zar. That would additionally balance out the remaining negative space of dark portions of the reflective windows to the left.

The tones, patterns and the angle of the sunlight make this good location and time for this kind of street work, and even more so in color.

I would revisit this area if I were you, even with a 'model' who is willing to walk back and forth if there is not enough natural foot traffic.

    Re: The Old Lady

Greg, drg made some good points as usual. I would add that I feel you should shoot this scene over to the right some more to eliminate the doors on the left. The two large windows would be enough. Right now there is a busy feel and too many verticals. This street looks a bit difficult to nail in a way that looks balanced because it appears the street is sloping. Waiting for the woman to have reached the large window would set her up better. right now she is being cut up somewhat bt the vertical lines in front and behind her. I think that reflection behind her is her own.
IMO, this is not the most interesting of background to catch a person walking by. I think the bg should in itself be something that you may want to photograph even without someone walking by, and then to have the subject makes it all that much more interesting. This spot I do not think has enough to make it too interesting.
I am glad to see you are getting back into the street thing.

Drg, Gary, Thanks for the advise. I will keep this in mind next time out. I cloned her reflection. Street photography certainly is a different thing all together. The help is much appreciated.

I think her reflection would have worked with more separation.
Despite the technical issues its an interesting shot and I still think she's running,(walking) away from home.

Thanks Frog, I really didn't like the shot at first but it is growing on me. I posted it to get some ideas. She was walking pretty fast. It's hard to think about all of the technical issues when shooting a moving target. I'll get there though.

    Re: The Old Lady

Interesting shot Greg, I also agree that her reflection wasn't really helping so I think you did the right thing by getting rid of it. Really wish I could see her other leg and that the windows weren't reflecting quite as much (particularly the car), am also wondering what she is doing with her coat, about to take it off?! Good to be intrigued!
