It's a funny little door, almost kennel like. The tubby shape leads me to think it might look better in landscape with more of the building and snow visible. But it is as much about that lovely colour combination of green and gold as much as anything else and all those old timbers always make for a good photograph.
All in all though Gary it is a very nice image.

I like old doors and this one is great. The hook in the upper left is a nice added element. Nice work Gary.

I really like the wasted/weathered look of it. I would like to see a bit more of the whole structure the door is part of.

I Iove this shot, but I would prefer a little more snow on the bottom. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Tom, Greg, Chaman, and Trailrider. I agree, the problem I always had with this shot is that I felt it was too tightly cropped. I don't quite remember the reason for me approaching it this way, but I think there was alot of stuff that I did not want in the scene.
Thanks for your thoughts on it.

Wow, I like the way the wood and paint are exposed perfectly yet you still have detail in the snow.

    Film?

I too wish there were more in the image but if as you recall there was junk you wanted to keep out of the frame......
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Gary,

You have really nailed the exposure and the colors are very nice, especially the golden splash on the door. I also like the textures and lines in the wood. I would agree though that it's cropped a little tight - I keep wanting to scroll up or to the side to see more. Maybe that's a good thing, always keep them wanting more?

    Gary -

The exposure is excellent and the variations in light and tone give it a multi-dimensional feeling, almost like an HDR, even though it was shot at a relatively flat angle. I agree with Trailrider that more snow at the bottom would help, but I've seen enough of your shots here to know that you would have done this if there wasn't some distracting object there to prevent it. My only other nitpick is the angle you shot it at -- looks pretty close to head-high, which is used too much. I think I would have gotten lower and aimed upwards somewhat, see what it did.

    Re: Old Green Door, Snowbound

MB1 . . .I was lucky to be out and about on a day with great lighting. Wintery clouds in the sky letting in some diffused light here and there. Also, shooting in RAW helps alot afterwards as well. I added. . .or exagerated the lighting later in PS to give it more dynamic. thanks for commenting.

PC . . .I wish I could get back to this scene and see if I could go at it again. I think it works because the subject is strong, but a slightly looser crop could have improved. thanks

GB1 . . .Interesting observation about a different, lower point of view. Actually, as I remember this, I was alot taller than the top of the door and was looking down at it in this shot. There was about 3-4 feet of snow all around and maybe there were stairs leading down to the door, I don't know.It would have been covered in snow. I spent alot of my concentration trying not to slip and fall with my camera and tripod. I should have shot this from many different points of view.
    thanks for the comments.
