    An Old Flower

I find this shot more interesting than I originally thought. Would love to know what you think.

    Re: An Old Flower

It's a good subject and acceptable shot of it, Arne. I love how its layers are displayed. It looks like a little snake inside (obviously not though). The lighting is mysterious, and the colors really show that it's indeed dead.

Technically though, I think it's no better than a 5/10. The depth of field is too shallow, meaning a lot of interesting stuff is soft. But even in the areas that are in focus, it's soft ... bad boy. Bump up the shutter speed and lower the aperture value by increasing the ISO. The bottom right blue also doesn't help here, but I don't see any way that you could eliminate it w/o losing the shape of the flower, which is too good to lose.

i also like the layers and think this could be a bit sharper through out. the fall colours are nice although there's a bit of a colour abberation in the middle. i actually kinda like the inclusion of the blue at the bottom right. it contrasts and works well with all the oranges you got. nice one.

nice subject! as mentioned , try a smaller aperture, it is already a 6 sec exposure, so going to say 15mm wouldn't hurt

a bit of fill flash so the center of the flower is more visible would help , no so much to wash away the ambient light, if you have an external flash then perhaps reflected of something, so it does not produce hard shadows, and either use an orange gel/filter / piece of plastic or an orange reflective surface so the light adds to the color pallete of the flower
