    Old Fig

I drive past this old fig everyday..Today some nasty storm clouds were looming from over the mountains...Always a good idea to have your camera handy..

I'm definitely digging this shot. The tree has enough personality to dominate the image by itself. Love the adverse juxtaposition of the earth and the sky. Please tell me you didn't do any post processing to this image!

Don't stop at this photo in shooting this tree. There are so many possibilities.

A beautiful shot Jurgen. That great sky seems to frame the tree well. What a magnificent subject.

You say this as if post processing is a bad thing. Every beautiful photograph hanging anyhere has had post processing done to it. The important thing is to only do that which enhances the shot.

Nah, that would be very dumb to make that stand. And it would make me a straight up HYPOCRITE since I edit like a little over half my best photos. It's just that if the pic is straight from the camera, I'd like to rejoice in the fact that Jurgen is an awesome photographer to get that shot. On the other hand, if there was post-processing, it dosen't change the fact that that it's a great image.

So don't get me twisted. I'm not anti-photoshop. :ihih:

I think that this is brilliant composition wise but it fells a little flat (despite the superb sky) because of the lack of contrast in the foreground. I think that the picture deserve a little post processing to really make it sings although I can recognise its qualities as it is.

This photo makes me think of the 60's. I picture looking though an old copy of Popular Photograpy and finding this shot taking up 2 pages.

I guess we can agree that Jurgen's a fine photographer for visuallizing this finished image and being able to produce it with whatever equipment was needed.

The sky has almost taken on the textures of the trees in the background. The tree is a good tree and I'm interested in what is underneath the it. Sleeping animals?
    Very nice photograph.

Thanks Chunk...This image apart from a little burning of the sky is straight out of the camera..I have been checking out this old fig for a few months now and have been waiting for an opportunity to get a good shot..

Devin,,I'm going to try late in the afternoon when the sun is setting behind the tree (I'm facing almost due west)..

    Re: Old Fig

This is an unusual shot. I love the sky and clouds and also like the tree and the field, but.... somehow I'm not sure they work 'together'..... hmmm... It's like the grass is too green and bright to seem natural because the clouds should be blocking the sun. I know how there's holes in the clouds and/or that they approach in a front, so the sun could be shining through.. this could even be what is so interesing about the shot.

Anyways - good capture and I hope you used common sense wrt lightning!!

Hi GB,,This time of year we get huge storm fronts from the SW over the escarpment..This image was shot early afternoon towards the front..Behind me and to the north the sky was still very clear bathing the tree and forground in sunlight..
