    Old Buried Barn

Took this photo on my way into Taylor,Tx. I was trying out a new red # 25 filter. I don't know if it worked out to well.

Looks like a rather interesting structure, but it seems just a bit too concealed by the foliage.

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I agree that it's hard to make out the building in the current image. The foliage may have been nice but in b&w it can't show it's stuff. The leaves also seem a little soft(?)

One thing to ask when shooting or converting to b&w is, is the subject and composition strong enough to make the pic stand? Pattern, shape, composition, etc really need to be solid. I find b&w works well in cities, with people, etc, but is significantly harder to make work in nature.

I think your right GB1, There's to much going on in the foliage department for B&W. Once again thanks for the input everybody.

    Re: Old Buried Barn

Bob, I am good with the scene, but the red filter in this situation did not help bring out the tonal range that I think should be brought out in a scene like that. Instead it sort of flattened much of the foliage, which is green making the image flat, tone wise - especially across the foliage in the bottom third.
My suggestion would be, if you shooting digital, to shoot with no filter in full color. Later, in post processing, if you Elements or Corel, or Photoshop, start by splitting the image into Red, Blue and Green Channel - and see what strikes you as interesting. Then create another layer and apply a channel mixer based on what you saw that you like. If you are shooting film, try different filters on the same scene - red, blue or green ....

Thanks llewpics I've since nixed the red filter idea for digital and shoot in color then turn to B&W in processing.

I like the scene. The framing and comp is also good, especially having some of the foliage trickling in of right frame,

I agree with llewpics in that the red filter did not work well here, and shooting straight in color and converting later in post keeps all your options and possibilities on the table.

    Nice, nonetheless.
