    Re: Old Barn

Scott, I think this site has great potential. The barn is great, the background could be interesting, and in this particular shot the sky shows a lot of contrast.

I think the barn is too close to the center of the frame(vertically)and maybe a little too close to the left side of the frame. If I were taking this I might have used a longer lens to bring the background a little closer, concentrated on the barn, and shortened the foreground to about 1/3 of the frame.

    Re: Old Barn

Scott - Welcome to the PR forums.

I'm a sucker for old barns! This one has a midwest feeling to it. Rustic, w/ wild grasses and collapsed building(s). I can't help but feel that the left barn is the one here and that you should focus more attention on it. Also - was it red? If so, I think this shot should have been in color, maybe with a polarizing filter.

I agree with EOS about the framing. Compositionally this image has everything placed inside the frame, so it is practical. But artistic wise, the centering isn't as creative as it could be. Even the two buildings on the right seem as one, and that make two objects - the left barn and the combined right one - making it hard to figure out which to look at.

    Subtle things for sure.

Anyway - again, welcome to the boards....

Thanks for the feedback. I have it in color and with a pano crop, let me know what you think.

I like the color as much as the B&W. The pano is good as there is more space on the left side. In color the clouds are more imposing which is a nice characteristic of the shot. I'd crop out some of the foreground in the color like you've done in the B&W pano, thereby taking the horizon away from center. Cheers S.

I think the pano works much better, either in color or B&W

Now I have to say that I like the color the best, it reminds me of growing up there was a couple of barns together just like this set. They just tore them down, this really brings back memories, and it is a great looking photo.

    Re: Old Barn

I really like the pano also. The clouds in the first black and white are quite contrasty and distract me from the image. The pano takes care of that. Great shot. I wish my photographic brain worked more like this.
