    Ocean Waves

Hello, I am new here. A co-worker pointed me to this site. I am really enjoying the beautiful pictures on this site.

Last week we had 3 days of huge surfs hitting the San Diego coast. I took these two pictures at a place called Sunset Cliffs.

Often a light blue filter will bring out fog although this is already done well. Fog is a difficult one.

Hi dennylee60 and welcome to PR.

I think you've got a great one here. I'm a sucker for this type of shot. I think you're colours here could be more vibrant even with a bit of post editing. I also think there's a heavy colour cast on this pic. Getting rid of that should boost this shot what it's supposed to be.

As far as the subject goes, I really like it. Love the waves. Love the two people on the cliff looking down on this and the birds almost look staged when looking at how even they are dispersed on the cliff. Very well done!

The only thing that bothers me a bit are the cars on the top left. To me they just bring this down a notch which I don't think this shot appreciates. I'd advice you crop them out to the pole or slightly to the left of it to isolate the couple and this great natural shot you have.

Very moody shot. Nicely done, although I would crop out the cars in about the same spot as Leels suggested.

Welcome to the forum. This is a great scene and you have it from a great perspective. I would suggest cropping from the left so that you just eliminate the cars, and then crop off the bottom enough to keep your aspect ratio. Then, if you are using Photoshop or Elemnts, give this an Auto color, or Auto Levels adj ( I found that Auto color worked best on this image) and the picture will improve alot by bringing out the whites in the foaming water, and lose the dull green/gray colorcast. Well composed shot.

    Denny,

Both good shots. The top picture looks like last year's Tsunami - it's a little scary how powerful the water can be. As folks have mentioned, man-made objects usually don't mix well in nature scenes. Cropping them out either at shooting time or with digital software after the shot is OK, but you can also digitally remove them as a last resort (that can take awhile to do!). The top shot has a little too much green for me. As Gary suggested, the color corrections should be easy.
