    North Breakwater

This young angler walked into shot just as I was about to press the button, so I shot it any way. I think he needs more definition from the background but I'm unsure of how to go about that. Any thoughts appreciated.

    Re: North Breakwater

I like the scene very much, but i'll agree that the boy that walked in to the foreground hurt the shot. Did you shoot this in color? If so, I think some color might be the only way out in getting the boy in front to separate from the rocks. Even if, he is not in a very good moment and I don't think seeing him any clearer will help. If you really want to do some work here, you can try editing him out of the shot completely by cropping and then some cloning.
This is definetely a spot where you have to hang out some more with the camera ready. Shoot lots of different scnes, some tight crops and some wide. There is plenty of interesting elements to this spot.

Wow, I REALLY would have liked to see this one without the boy in the foreground. Great leading lines and the young girl in the background unsucsesfully trying to gey the other boy's attention would have made a fantastic story.

    Re: North Breakwater

If only the boy in the foreground was mimicing the others making it a better pattern or as jetrim and Gary said not there at all it would have been so much better.

The only real problem is the composition, it has nice tonal quality.

    Re: North Breakwater

Well it would be a different shot without the kid in the foreground... and maybe more powerful at that, but the BW image is still good. I would actually try to make the foreground subject more dominant by whitening up the face just a bit. then it becomes the center of interest right... with a very good compositional counterbalance by the isolated figure on the left. Anyway that is how I read it.

I like the color edit the best I think you could crop some of the sky out. Just above the darker clouds. Everyone else has already touched on the boy in the foreground.

Thanks for taking the time to comment all and pointing out problems that need to be addressed, very much appreciated. Spray due to high seas and strong wind was becoming an issue here.
