    Non-smokers Not Welcome

    Hi,
The shot was taken in a Chinese Temple. The environment is very smokey because of the burning incense. The shot was taken with a 5D and a 24 mm TS-E lens at ISO 1000.
    Welcome your comments.

Realy like the repitition of shape and pattern in the first shot, definitly my favorite of the two! I would be curious to see it in B&W.

    cheers

Yoyo, I too like the repetittion of the shapes and your overall composition in your first picture. However, in this particular photograph, the smoke at the left could almost be mistaken with a form of lense flare. I am not sure that I could figure out that this is smoke if you didn't tell us first, which weaken the picture in my view.

I like the subject of your second picture but the whole scene feels quite busy. I guess that a shallower dof would have been beneficial here.

    regards

    Seb

I like the first shot as well with the spiral ornaments, and your offsetting them as you have done was good. Sebs point about the smoke in the bottom side of frame is valid, but I am not too bothered by it as I think I would know it was smoke and part of the scene without you having mentioned it. It also seems to enable an atmosphere to go along with.
The 5D looks great at that ISO. . .did you mean 1000 ISO ? At the risk of sounding ignorant, I thought the ISO ran at 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200. Does this camera move away from traditional film value settings altogether and have a somewhat variable ISO?

Would like to see this one biggger in the gallery! The "from below" angle of this photo renders a very intriguing and unusual view of the temple interior. I hope everyone realizes that these are incense coils burning. It's not necessary that the viewer know that, but I believe it adds to the overall effect and title.
I like how you decided to cut the subject with the frame. Would like to have seen more smoke.

Looking forward to more of you images and certainly more from the 5d as well.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the comment.
Hi Seb, I have thought about the point you commented about the smoke on the left. The smoke could enhance the image if using it properly. I am afraid the shot does not use it to enhance the overall effect.
Hi Gary, Thanks for the kind words. The ISO settings of the 5D are increased in a 1/3 step. From IS0 800 to ISO 1600, the intermediate steps are ISO 1000 and ISO 1250.
Hi drg, Thanks for the analysis, I will add a bigger file in the Gallery.

    Yoyo,

I enjoyed both of your images very much. My favorite is the first. I just love all of those concentric circles, they make my eyes want to look again and again. Congratulations on your new camera too. Looks like it is getting some good use.
