    Re: No Smoking

Roger, very good framing of this subject. I like the texture of the wet sand with lumps and rocks and the smooth sign partially covered. This may be the last time it is ever exposed again and you have captured it in time. The few hot spots at the top could be a bit distracting, but it does not bother me much. I had a nice result when I used a burn brush set to reduce the brights (highlights) at about 10% with a soft edge brush and swept around the edges of the image , mostlty the upper portion with the hot spots. It focused attention immediately to the sign and lent an interesting sort of lighting situation. Good find

    Gary,

I must be loosing the plot - when I went back to the original I had already burned the top left in but must have converted it to 640 for upload before I had carried out the burning.

I've now reposted what it should have been. Totaly agree with your comments though.

The sign is from a local oil refinery.

    Re: No Smoking

Roger, I really like the concept of this shot and I really like the framing and the textures. It feels a little too dark or contrasty to me, though. I can't put my finger on it. What I can say, however, is that you've lost almost 100% of your shadow detail. Well, on my monitor, at least.
I'd be really interested in see a high-quality fine art print of this shot. There's so much subtlety here that it's not getting the proper treatment on a monitor.
    Nice work.

Nice capture Rodger, It looks almost like an image sent back from another planet by a Mars Rover or something. I like it.....

    Re: No Smoking

Greg and McMadCow thanks for looking

Greg - I thought Mars barren of water but I get what you mean. Never thought of it that way though.

McMadCow - Just printed this and there is more detail on the printed version but not much more than in the picture uploaded. This was a noon day photo almost directly into the sun. My plan was to take 2 photos one light and one dark to get the detail However my Powershot Pro 1 lost battery power on the next photo in the sequence which was the lighter one and corrupted the file on the card, can't recover it. I had planned on merging both.

Personally I'm quite please with the result that came off the printer in A4 size.
