    Night shot on campus

I havent done much night shooting before, so this probably isn't a great shot, but I took it tonight after a graduation reception at the community college. I used a light post as a tripod, at random. Let me know what you think, so someday I can actually go out for some planned night shooting. I decided not to crop this because I want to know what everyone thinks of the image in its original form.

Overall I like it David. I think that you have done a good job given that you were using a makeshift tripod (!) and you have chosen an interesting time of day to photograph the building. I particularly like the shapes on either side of the building and the overall composition, sadly the foreground is quite dark so the real composition isn't fully recognised given the amount of available light. Keep at it, I really enjoy night photography but find that I probably bin more photographs in this area than any other, that's probably why it is so enjoyable...

    Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the comments. I could brighten it a little bit, but then the building would be too bright. I have also thought about cropping it a bit, and just get rid of some of the foreground. Do you think that might work?

EDIT: Here's another version, cropped and slightly lightened.

Nice considering its a lamp post for a tripod.

When I saw the original my first thought was pano - get rid of the foreground. The second is much better.

Nice exposure. This is a good start for your night shoots. The little building at the top has a slight perspective lean but still a nice picture.....

Yeah, that is an odd shaped protruding skylight on top of the building, and it is angled farther away to the right, creating the tilted look.
