    The Night Shift

This web was spun overnight. I found it first thing this morning on the patio.

I think the lighting is very good, along with the DOF. You did a very nice job making the web dominate in the shot. Nice one CF. A huge spider would have been icing on the cake.

I think it's a technical well executed photo. Composition-wise, I'd suggest cropping some of the bottom. It looks like a good record shot to me.

I agree with AE. I'd lop a full third off the bottom. Beautiful web though

Thanks for leaving me your thoughts. I will play around with this and see how the additional crop looks. Thanks again.

A very nice capture. I'm always amazed at the simplicity, yet complexity of a spiderweb and the design that goes into it. You have really captured this nicely.

I agree with comments regarding the crop off the bottom.

These were the settings I pulled from the EXIF data:

    Camera Make: Canon
    Camera Model: Canon EOS 40D
    Image Date: 2009:09:20 07:57:46
    Flash Used: No
    Focal Length: 109.0mm
    CCD Width: 4.58mm
    Exposure Time: 0.033 s (1/30)
    Aperture: f/5.6
    ISO equiv: 200
    White Balance: Auto
    Metering Mode: Matrix
    Exposure: program (Auto)
    Cheers,
    Greg

Thanks for pulling up the particulars and for leaving a comment. The plant is lion tail, which has beautiful bright orange blooms. Sure wish they were in this shot. You can see the empty cones. Can't have everything, I guess.

CF, I think this shot is too loose. The web is spectacularly undamaged and covered in dew - I would have shot it much tighter to pull in as much detail as technically possible.

    Loupey,

Funny you should say that. I took several shots of just the web, as you suggest. They just didn't do much for me without the plant but it is great to hear from someone else that thought the real shot was an extreme close up. I really get what you are saying and appreciate the comment. Thanks much.

Sorry but I didn't mean that close. I like the vegetation on both sides (not so much on the bottom) - the web has to be held from something and they are important for the shot. It's just too wide as is for me. It could be cropped I suppose, but I always recommend to leave as little as possible to waste.
