    Night Pano

This was my first attempt at shooting at night. The sky was a litter lighter than hoped, however Without a lot of pp not sure it could have been any better. I am slightly disappointed that some of the tree on the far left had to be cropped out, due to not lineing up with the tops of other pics. Hope the small picture looks okay here. had to keep it within the size limits.

    hey tey,

first of all, you did a good job stitching this beast. I'm sure the original is huge. How many shots were these? Also, you've alluded to the first problem, it's too small to talk about. I find my self squinting to try and see it.

The first thing that pops in my head is that the colour balance is off, when shooting these night cityscapes always turn your white balance to "incandescent." That should get rid of the heavy yellow/orange tint.

Also, I think it might have improved had you concentrated on like a half of this scene and got nice and big. I can imagine the area starting at where the buildings start from the right to about after the lit dome, nice and big with the right colour balance. That would work, i think.

I hope that helped. I can't see much honestly.

The lining up of the photos is always a problem. If you are having problems of the horizon moving in the frames use your tripod, and for longer panoramas use a bubble level to make sure the tripod is level. But watch out you can get the dreaded out of memory error!

Based on the fact that panorama's never look that good on the web because of space and resolution limitations I think yours looks pretty good. I'm sure as a print it would look much better. Nice job for the first try! Is you monitor's color calibrated?

    Re: Night Pano

I did use a tripod with a bubble level. however the landscape is sloped like in the picture. I will have to try it again during the day. to see if I can the the top portions of the pictures to all line up rather than slightly descending. Also a note is that the far left of the image is the closest point to me while taking the photos.

jbald, my monitor is indeed calibrated, however I didn't mess much with the raw files rather I wanted to see it stitched together. Impatient at 11pm last night. I will have to mess around with them some more the next few days.

    Re: Night Pano

As Jim mentioned, Pano's always hard to view on a screen and I can't enlarge the shot to see more detail. What I can see however I think is great and could make for a super poster. Well done Tay. S

    Re: Night Pano

The level looks pretty good to me, from what I can see of it. The landscape slopes but the edges of the buildings appear to be plumb (straight). There is a lot of tungsten colored light, but all cities have that. I can also clearly make out white, red and purple lights which appear correct (or as much as possible at this size). I think the main culprit here is the 800px limitation on attachments.

    Re: Night Pano

As mentioned the pictures looks great lined up and the number is great, wow 6 pictures. But the small file is what is hurting it.

BTW what program did you use to combine the picture together?

    Re: Night Pano

ps cs3 and photomerge to line them up(maybe cheating a little). When doing that I am always confused on which method to use to merge the files.
