    A night of its own

    Well,

Does this work for anybody? I must say, this picture hold a whole lot more sentimental value than the actual shot ever will. To give some context, this was taken the night of my great grandmother's funeral. She died at the blessed age of 97 and it was more a celebration than a remorseful mourning. That night included drinks, food, and long talks. I hope the grittiness of the black and white and the picture works for you guys.

    RIP Baba.

    By the way,
I'm open to any criticism...so say what you feel,

    Thanks in advance.

Re: A night of its own

    Hi Jared,

    First, please accept my condolences.

Second, it's nice to see a photo from you once again.

Third, That's a nice image. I'm sure it will bring back memories later on. I would have collected the balled napkins before the shot. But, that's Ok. However if you have the software, you may try and un-warp the image a little. It suffers some from diverging vertical lines do to the wide-angle lens.

    Tim

    Condolences offered here as well......

I like the picture, although, without the story behind it, I do not think that it would have been as good for me. The only thing and it may be from as Tim said a wide angle lens but I feel like it is leaning to the left a little.

    Tim,

Thanks for the words. I didn't notice the wide angle lens distorition, I was using my Sigma 28-70 and never knew it would give that effect. Thanks for the words.

    Summer,

Thanks also. I appreciate the comments and notice the point about things being a tad tilted.

Re: A night of its own

Jared - Condolences too. I just got back from a funeral not long ago and we also went to a restaurant after the wake, just to brighten things up a little (plus, we still have to eat).

I like the right part with the wine glass, but the photo gets progressively cluttered as it receeds. I also find the DOF a tad too shallow, though the distortion isnt very noticable to me. Perhaps if the people weren't in the shot, where it was just objects, that might make it more mysterious. But as you noted, this shot was more of a life-record one. Hence, it is more important in most ways than other shots.

    GB,

Thanks for the words. It's interesting that you point out the clutter, I never really realized how clogged up it gets until you pointed it out.

    Thanks again.
