    New York, New York

    Hi all

I am just home from a visit to NYC - I was last there just a month after 911 so it was nice to see it somewhat 'normal' (Sandy notwithstanding). As well as the standard tourist shots, I have been experimenting with a new (for me) treatment.

What do you think? At least with these I was trying to avoid the obvious kind of shot.

    Cheers
    Mike

In the first I like the contrasting architecture styles and if you must have vehicles what better than iconic yellow cab and school bus.

The painting on the building lifts the second, not sure about the cars though. I suppose they are an inevitable part of a NY scene.

The third is my favourite without doubt, I really like the composition, but the treatment I feel could be backed off a tad, looks like you spilled coffee on it.....

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I have no issues with you editing my photos

    Re: New York, New York

I always like seeing a different perspective on subjects that get photographed a lot. My favorite is the last one, then the first.
The color contrast is nice in that first one with all the yellow and the light hitting the cross is really nice. The contrast between old and new is good too.
The second one doesn't do much for me. No obvious point of interest and the composition doesn't seem quite balanced.
The last is the one I really like. The treatment is interesting and gritty, kind of how I imagine NYC. The small Statue of Liberty is great. I like the balance of the composition too. Key elements fall on 1/3rds or close to them and the open space on the left is balanced by the mass on the right. Very engaging. Nice work!

I must agree with the other number 3 is the real gem of this group, love the Statue of Liberty looming hazily in the background and the square format seems to work very well.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Mike,

I always like your work. To be honest, these are some of my favorite shots of NYC - and it is my favorite place for photography. I live in NJ - 30 minutes by bus to the city, and in decent weather, go there often with my camera. You've captured the "spirit" of the city - at least as I experience it. Thanks!

Each one is unique - and I tried to find something I would change to improve. Nothing!

My favorite is No. 3. All very rich photos.

Thanks for sharing - I loved viewing them.

#3 is truly special, i liek the processing, while I may prefer a cleaner version
#2 nice painting, and agian i like the processing, specially on the building on the right, maybe I would have tried to avoid the SUV on the bottom right
#1 a very nice scene ! I do not like how much attention is taken by the school bus + the taxi, the bus is to much in the way of the nice building in the back

Many thanks guys for your kind words. I agree myself that the third image is the real 'keeper' in the bunch.

I have done a short AV (slideshow) from NYC which I will stick under Viewfinder.

    Thanks again for looking

Why am I only seeing two pictures? Anyway I really like the processing and the bird shot is the better of the two I am seeing. The first one is a bit busy with the cars but still laid out nicely and the billboard makes the shot to me and the angle you chose.
