    hey there===

    I like the reflections on the bike...clouds, the road and just the little hints at the surrounding scene thru the reflections... the comp works (IMHO not knowing anything about what makes a good bike shot)

    the only thing is that the shot looks a bit flat...it's not hittiing me with a defined foreground and background...

    maybe someday we'll have a bike of our own to photograph...

    Thanks, Nat.
    The pic seems a bit busy to me and was even worse before I cropped it some. Actually the busyness may convey some of the helter-skelter 'organization' of about 50 strongly individual people getting lined up for a ride.

    Been on a few rides myself with several different bikes I have had over the years. A great feeling of excitement and anticipation as the gathering begins. I like this shot for the tight crop and frame and there is just a right light hitting your friend s face bringing him out as the subject. My only opinion for improvement would have been less dof to blur out the bg and let Fly stand out without distraction. Even with the blur, i think we would be able to make out that the bg had other bikes and riders

    Thanks for looking, Gary, and taking the time to comment. A shallower dof would have been better. Immediately after taking this shot, Fly notice me and his face lit up with his normal friendly grin and the seldom seen contemplative look disappeared. Even if I had thought about changing the aperture (I didn't) I wouldn't have gotten this shot of him in a reflective mood. What do you think of my post processing attempt here?

    I think the blur is an improvement, but you also lost some of the edge of his head and back with the blur. Another try with a bit more practice seems you will have it right on. Don't get me wrong, the image is a good one as it stands, just think the dof improves it even more. Good work

    I also had trouble with background items that show through the shield. Things like the helmet weren't too bad where the shield is clear but I had to leave other items sharp where there are transperent reflections on the shield. I used 2 different levels of Gaussien blur for the middle and more distant BG and softened the areas you mentioned to lessen the 'cookie cutter' feel in those areas.

    Two subjects

    There are two subjects here worth the trouble of working at.Fly alone is worth taking to one side for a portriat shoot.The bike to looks worth spending a bit of time on.As he is your friend you should ask him to spend an hour or so while you shoot them together and seperately in various poses.I do like this shot and wonder have you any more from this day? Thanks for sharing.
