Help!!! I have never been on or used a forum before!! I have always wondered, but my daughter has finally forced me!!! I take pictures of my Grandkids and she gets wonderful comments from the people she shares them with in her "world"....so she suggested that I could get critique and advice if I just asked.....so I'm asking..but I'm not sure where to begin!

Welcome! You've picked the best photo forum right off the bat. I've been here a bit and had never done forums before either and have only met with friendly people who are willing to share and learn, no matter what their expertise level.
Its a bit of a challenge but not for long, figuring out where to put stuff, so I'll start you off by saying this thread should be in the viewfinder forum where people introduce themselves and generally share their photo adventures and pictures. There are some neat threads there with themes such as 'capture a stranger, transportation, cute kids, 50mm challenge, etc.
This forum is to post photos that you want people to critique and you'll get mostly honest stuff about how good or bad your shot is and best of all, how to improve it.
Don't worry about starting in the wrong forum....people will greet you anyway and a moderator may move the post for you.
If you look in the site review forum at the bottom, you'll find how to post pics, so I hope to see some here soon.

To expand on what Frog said, he's right this particular post is better suited for "viewfinder". But I also see that you are looking for critique. This is the right place for that. If you want to post a photo to receive critiques, you have to have a host(someplace to display your photo).

This site is great because it will host you photo for you. It will also create a members gallery for you if you chose. When you start a new post underneath the text box will be a button to "upload photos". Your photo should be no larger than 800 on the long side, and no larger than 293kb in size. A .jpg will usually fit here if you downsize it to 800 on the long side with the quality about 90%.

The second way to post a photo is to have an outside host such as Pbase, Flicker, Smugmug, Photo bucket, etc. Some of these hosts are free, some cost a monthly or yearly fee. Upload your photo to your site, copy the URL for it, and then direct link that to your post using the little yellow square "photo" from the menu above the text box.

i use photobucket to host my photos and think its much easier. it resizes for you and everything, give you a link to copy paste and you can sort your photos in to folders etc with it. and its free.

thats what i suggest. although man people use this site, i could never get it to work properly.
