    New and practicing

Hi all! I'm new to the forum. I've been toying with my Nikon D40 for a few months now. I'm getting comfortable with it. I'm looking to see what can be improved. At this point I work strictly SOOC.

    Re: New and practicing

Hey, and welcome to the forum.

I like the subject. The texture and warm colors are nice, and I like the angle you shot as opposed to dead on. The interesting part of the image is really the sawed off surface of the tree and the in focus bark area around it. The area off to the left especially at top becomes a bit soft and murky and feels as if it could use a bit more breathing room on top.
I think cropping this into a square works pretty well, but nonetheless its not bad as it is.

I agree with Gary. Nice work with the lighting, color ect. I like the composition as well. Maybe another element, gloves, saw ect. Still a nice start. Well done.
