    New Mother

This was taken the last time I was visiting my family. This is my sister and relatively new niece. It was taken in a kitchen/dining room and I didn't have any special lighting, just the light that was there. This is one of my favorites, though I may be a bit biased seeing as this is my first and only niece. *smile* All comments are welcome... I would like to have everyone else's opinion.

    Excellent.

Wow. For just being a spur-of-the-moment kind of shot you really captured something special here. Not the typical "mom with new baby" shot by any means, because of the silent expression on her face and the baby being turned the other direction.

I really like it. Also, B&W was the absolute right choice here I think. One the best "people shots" I've seen on these forums to date, if not the best.

I generally agree with PuckJunkey that this is a really nice photo, and that B&W was the right choice. The exposure is good. I like her face and her look, almost as if she's absently staring off into space and quietly murmuring, "shhhh..." to keep the baby calm. My only nitpick is that her hand at the bottom of the picture is a little too blurry, when everything else in the photo is relatively sharp (if a bit soft, which works). But it's only a nitpick. Great one!

Excellent. You captured a fine moment with your sister in thought. What I get from the image is a mother thinking possibly about the future for she and her new baby. This is the kind of shot that everyone might interpret in different ways but is still powerful any way you see it. All the technicals are fine to me. Great work

Wow... thank you very much for the compliments. I always loved this pic, I'm glad you guys did too, as I was thinking of having it printed for my brother and sister (she's a sister-in-law). They live in Maryland and I don't know that they have even seen this yet. *smile*

Oh, and the slight blurr of her hand... I think it's because she may have been patting Abigail on the back.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it.

I bet your sister-in-law would be very happy to receive this from you! One of the joys of photography for me is giving a photo away when a friend or family member likes it.
