I like it Though I wish the moon was bigger (have you ever tried double exposures?). The shadows playing on the canyon (or rock, whatever that thing is) makes for a very neat effect. I'm guessing this is at sunrise? It's very pretty. Good shot

I agree the moon could be a little bigger and maybe a new title. It looks very peaceful...

    Re: A New Moon

Welcome to the forum. i like the use of negative space in the vertical shot. I too would like to see the moon bigger in the scene as well as having less shadow down in the bottom. I have done many moon shots and in my galleries, they are all done with film using double exposure. It is a very effective means of bringing the moon out closer while keeping the landscape framed as you wish. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

    Re: A New Moon

HHLHM - Welcome to the forums. I think that your pic here has potential. I've seen scenes like this and have wondered what it would take to get the best pic of them. I think that the time you shoot it and the moon's relative position over the horizon are critical factors. I think that perhaps this shot was taken a bit too early, as the sky seems a bit too bright (???). Hard to say ... the light may not have illuminated the cliff any earlier... Catch 22 there.

I'm thinking that perhaps a horizontal composition might also have been good. You would have to get in closer though - not sure if that would work cause it might mean that most of the cliff would be dark from that angle.

Anyway - decent catch. I would crop out 4/5 of the space above the moon btw. It seems more 'to the point' like that.

    Re: A New Moon

This is an excellent capture. The vertical framing works nicely here. But I agree with the other's comments about the moon needing to be larger. Other than that, I like it just the way it is but would have preferred the moon to occupy the upper right section of the frame. That would have balanced out the photo. Nice work.

The cropping makes all the difference.

I tried to keep that natural gradient in the sky as much as possible.
