New Life Begins Here aka Church pt2

Here is the film version of the church. This is the first time anyone has ever go mad at me for taking their picture. This lady went balistic.

It looks like the "new life begins here" sign is pointing at the lady. I guess she didn't want that much responsibility.

The sign was what I noticed as well. Now I'm going to have to go back and look at the earlier shot to see if it's there or not.

It's a nice shot, but I'm curious how it turned out with the lady?

I like it as much as the first...if I nitpick, I wish you'd caught her between the door and the sign on the right.

I suppose Gary in what looks like a quiet environment with few others around, she may well have felt a bit targeted. It's a good Church for a photo and having herself there makes it better but I feel the colour of the sky is a bit close to that of the road. I have calibrated my new monitor but am not too happy and feel it needs further checking; so I could be way off the mark on this.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

That's funny. I guess those are the hazards of street photography, huh?

I have a funny story that rather similiar if not more extreme, to your Greg.
I was out photographing a few years ago on State Street in Salt Lake City, I was crossing the street and a guy in who was stopped at the light making a right turn, pokes his head out the window, remember he was driving, and starts asking what I was doing with my camera and all that. I kind of blew him off, because I was like out on a public street.
He eventually turns and I think that's the last I'll see of him.
I cross the street and walk into a bar, for about 20 minutes or so, I walk out and guess who's outside!
    The guy from the car!
I don't know how he saw me walk into this particular bar.
He continued "questioning" me in this rather paranoid tone for a few minutes until I able to convince him or something that I had every right to be doing what I was doing.

    Anyway, back to your photograph...
As I stated on flickr, I like this one. I like how the person is walking in the opposite direction of the sign.

Thanks Brian that is a funny story. I have found it takes a certain mentality to do street work.

    You got that right!
But with that sexy and silent M6 of yours and what seems to be the right kind of attitude, you'll do great!

Greg, I like the Church part 1 alot better. In this scene, the sign does not add anything really and the person blends into the door too much. In both shots, I would have liked not having the person look at the camera/you. I know this is tough especially when they are suspicious of what you are doing. I run into this type of thing alot when I try this stuff.
I think part 1 is very good, just would be better having him not looking your way.

This is where I am thankful for this 22'' monitor I have in my office at work.
Like Gary, I give the slight nod to the first (original) simply because the guy with the 40 in his hand is classic...I also agree the sign, is more of a distraction. Perhaps cloning out the sign? But I love the look of the color film and in particular the grain really adds to the mood of the image...

Thanks Gary. I agree with the person looking at me. I have three exposures and he is looking in all three.

If the second person was in the same spot as the first...it would work better for me.

I could see a series with several different pwople at different times, with different signs all taken from the same spot.

    It would be awesome.

    Great spot.

Thanks Len. I stalled waiting for the lady to look away when she was a the same point as the gentelmen in the first shot. I agree that being seperated from the door would help. I thought about PSing her over but it is what it is.LOL

Gary covered what I was about to comment on this.

What I do like though is the way some of the bulbs on the arrow are not lit and it gives the impresion of doubt since the arrow is pointing at the person which makes her a bad example of humanity. Not trying to cast aspersion on the lady's character but its what went through my puny grey cells when I first saw this. That is why I like the head looking at you with that threatning look.

    Hope that makes sense.

It's a completely different feel to the original.
