New Camera!

hey everyone,

well ill start off with saying hey, my name is Rylan im new to the site. Im really into photography and i recently purchased the fuji film fine pix s700.
and last night i snapped a pic of a beer bottle haha and it came out clear and i jus wanna know what you people think.....any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure the camera was not too close to the subject? It seems to me your camera was having problem focusing on it. Did you use the macro mode?

Hi Rylan, welcome to the Photo critique forum. Congrats on the new camera! I'm not sure if what your looking for here is a critique on the actual photo you have loaded or moreso some help and insight in the technical side of your new camera itself. You might consider posting a thread for specific help related to your camera in the Help forums of Photographyreview and see if other users of this camera may be able to offer you some tips.
As for this image , I like the fact that nothing in the background or immediately next to your subject is distracting from it in any way. The close focusing of the subject blurred out the bg nicely and did not allow it to distract. The position of the bottle is good and I like the slanted composition here is it goes well with this whimsical image. Not a bad shot, but as AE stated it looks a bit soft which could be from any number of reasons from a slow shutter speed while handholding the shot, to the cameras ability to focus on something as close as this and whether or not it was in macro mode, or simply your resizing for the web and not applying any sharpening.

Ryan, I'll ditto Gary's comments. That focus should be spot-on if you were in Macro mode. Was this just a snapshot, or did you think about your composition before shooting (did you intentionally shoot for the angled can)? Is this the original version without cropping? Did you manipulate the colors or contrast any?

Macros are one of my favorite themes because they offer the Wow! factor.
