    Re: neglected garden

so THAT'S where i left it...

i don't know how it fits it with what is right or wrong but i think that this is a really "nice" photo.

lots of little things going for it. nice colours. that little flower (daisy ?) the greens.

i think that i would like that photo in a frame on a desk or something ~ it gives me a little smile i can't say why. very pleasing and i don't have to think about a story about who left it there or will someone find it etc....

it's just something that you might find in ANY decent back yard (unfortunately out back yards here unless you're a millionaire is about 20 x 20) of note. we had huge backyards as kids and stuff like this turned up all the time. along with the end of an old rake or similar.

we probably were playing with it there and just left it when our attention moved on. i might have liked a little weed in the can somewhere but honestly i think it is great just like it is....

    cheers mate

Good catch there, this is a nice composition.

Technically the whole thing looks a little soft, the details in the white flowers are lost and I think the colors would look nice if it were a little warmer.

Still a good composition and subject overcome a lot of small tech things.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: neglected garden

I agree that it's a nice shot, but it seems to miss with me beyond that. It seems like it could go one way or the other to be something different but instead sits there in the middle. Some suggestions would be

    - sharpen it up. It seems awful soft -- did you do this on purpose? If no, perhaps using a tripod would help. Or it could be a resizing issues that softened it a little.. have to sharpen it a bit after resizing.

    - go the other way and using some PP filters make it into an impressionist type shot but softening it even more. I think you might have to reduce contrast a tad and also lighten it for that to work.

    - A wider angle might work better. The bucket seems too centered and the white flower on the left seems cramped. A little more space on the sides, this might have been a plus.

It is on the cool side, but I'm not sure that's bad.... it makes it seem like an overcast day and of course that's what it certainly is.

    Re: neglected garden

Thankyou gentelmen! Tripod was not available and had to use wide aperture, thus the softness.
I do think I may play with it.

Nicely spotted and framed, Frog. Perhaps a bit to tightly cropped, but still pleasing. I agree with some other comments about the brightness and maybe coming down on the levels a bit will help. Also, add a bit of warmth to this by adjusting the color temperature.
