    Need More

The Little Tennessee along Need More Road.

    I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Chunk, good to see you back. Happy New Year. I like this alot. You captured the mood of the fog/mist rising through the trees. If I could critique anything here it is only that the scene seems a little tilted to the left, but most likely because of the line of the waters edge being slanted.
Beautiful scene, one that would make a great card. . . or painting.
    Good work

    Chunk,

Welcome back where have you been.

You comment fooled me 'cause I've been looking for that darn road :

You have captured a scene I've always wanted to capture but never managed. Love the dynamic way that all the parts, water, mist, and trees make the picture come alive.

I agree with Gary that perhaps the picture needs a slight rotation owing to the river bank on the left and the trees against the boarder on the right; And then I think the trees on the left and centre may become tilted. You'd have to try it to see what works.

Every here is beautifully restrained and it's all so easy on the eye. You have shown us just the right amount of everything and I just want to be there to listen. On close examination only I might see the tilt referred to by other colleagues but that in no way detracts from what is a lovely photograph.
Need more? Yes I want more.

    Re: Need More

Gary, Roger, Overbeyond, thanks for your replies.
I looked at rotating this but rejected that because I thought it was better to have the few trees leaning in from the right than a whole bunch leaning on the left. I think this is pretty much how the actual scene appeared, looking up and across the river which is flowing pretty rapidly from right to left. Maybe the apparent tilt doesnt bother me as much because I know how it felt there so it's good to have your feedback. Maybe I'll try a slight rotation with a perspective correction for comparison.

This is one of those photos where the whole scene is the subject and I was wondering if people would think it suffered from not having a specific subject.

Sorry about being absent so much lately. I just spent a couple weeks in North Carolina after helping a relative of a dying friend get down there. Internet connection was not very handy for me. I've put a few more shots that I took while down there over on the Project Forum. I really loved the moody mornings in the mountains during the unseasonably warm weather they were having.

Here's that shot after rotating and then doing a perspective correction so that most trees seem vertical and the shoreline is more level.

I know the tilted feeling is lessened. Do you think the shot is better for it? Does it have less of a feel of flowing in the river? Does that matter?

Chunk, I had meant to come back to you on this to tell you that after looking at the image more, i felt it was fine and really did not need the nit pik suggestion of leveling. Now, after seeing your edit, I do like the new version a bit better. somehow, it just feels a little more comfortable. I say it is improved, but either way you have it would be just great regardless.

    Re: Need More

Chunk I feel it has and it has not improved it. While the slight tilt is gone it is at the expense of a lot of water. I really enjoyed the larger expanse of water especially in front of the straightened trees on the right.
Have you by any chance done a little sharpening on this version.
I dont think it suffers by not having a "specefic subject". Anything else here would be a disturbance.

I agree about the loss of fg water. I may be able to get a rotated shot with more fg water from another shot. Haven't looked yet.
I usually apply some USM after reducing size for posting. I probably didn't get the same amount in both. There is probably some small difference in levels and color adjustment as well. Which do you prefer sharpness-wise? The softer (to me) first image seems more natural to me.

To be honest Chunk there is not enough change that makes too much difference. Had you come back to me and said there was no change I would happily accept that.
But if pushed I would say I preferred the first one.

    Chunk,

I would prefer the new version if there was more water, but I do prefer the lack of tilt in the picture.
