    Native Species

I went on a hike today through a portion of Mission Trails Regional Park, here in San Diego. The sky was littered with tiny butterflies, the size of a dime. Here are a few shots; it is white on the outside and blue on the inside.

    Not surprisingly, they're blues
They look very similar to our UK species.

    Hi Paul,

You are so correct. I failed to included the name of this little gem, but it is indeed, a blue.

The first one is nice for the details of the wing. But the last one appeals the most to me for the lovely angle and texture of the plant. Unfortunately, the butterfly wasn't in the most flattering position. Close though.

The bottom one's magical CF. Nice subject, nice blur. My only concern is perhaps too much sharpening (it doesn't look bad at all, though) and that the butterfly looks so much like a leaf that you miss him. But that may be a strength of the image. Interesting texture .

    GB,

Thanks for leaving the comments. Sharpening is always a touchy layer and I see what you mean. As for the butterfly looking like one of the flowers/leaves, I thought the same thing and tried to build that into the image. Thanks for noticing.

    Re: Native Species

Wonderful images, I love them all. Great DOF, sharpness, and color. I find that the smaller the butterfly, the harder it is to get them to stay still long enough for a shot.
    Great work!
