    My Second Portrait

Do animals count as portraits, or just people?

Very nice indeed. There is a duality going on that I am having a hard time describing, but makes the photo very engaging.

Beautiful! The expression is reminiscent of a human expressing some sort of inquiry with his eyes. You know the look, it's sort of the challenge you would see on someone's face when you've got something on them and let them know it. They kind of stick their nose in the air, look down at you and say "yeah? So?". Very nice. And I agree that these are portraits as much as any. I would like to have seen a bit of sidelighting on that gorgeous mane though. Hairlights are my current obsession.

    dbutler,

Thanks so much for the comment/suggestion. The shot was taken at the last light of day but without any of that wonderful soft glow; my subject was under a tree rather in the shade. Thanks again.

Wow! Fine work. Amazing how you managed to capture such a beautiful portrait of a lion..... Worthy of publication IMO.

Amazing detail and "pose." Looks like he struck one just for you! Agree with Dee as to what his countenance seems to be communicating. "Yeah? So?" sums it up perfectly.

    Excellent portrait, David.
