My Poorly Rendered Omage to Gary

You know it's just like me to take a really good idea and ruin it. But being that
I am very new to all this layers stuff this is about the best I can do right now.

Go ahead, bash me. I know I deserve it. I'm ready, just watch the face please, that's how I make my money...

No bashing, I'm a Gary copycat too - just a suggestion. Try varying the opacity of the color layer or dropping the saturation (or both) to let the can blend into the scene a bit more. Right now it seems almost cut and pasted onto the BW.
I like the light on the can.

I agree with Chunk, it does feel a tad copy/pasted in. Maybe unsharpen it a tad too, thought it may just be the colors that make it look so sharp compared to the rest of the picture.

The Cans color and the lighting on it make it a good CANdidate. The bg and setting are interesting as well which is what I find important when composing my shots, as it has to be more than just the can making the image but rather a compliment of the can and environment. I try to let the lighting and composition bring the can out of the scen rather than rather than it being the color that does it. As stated already, it does seem cut and paste into the scene but may benefit by a little desaturation of the can and slightly tighter crop . It also seems the bg is a magenta cast? thanks for the omage

In the BG color I was trying to contrast the color of the can. I think I botched it. Now that I look at it I can't believe that I posted it. I really could have doone much better. i am going to try again. I want to make you proud Gary!

    Thanks everybody!

    Almo,

What process did you use to get this effect...I'm thinking of trying it on some shots, and curious on the processes of doing it.

    Thanks,

    Jared

Well first I went to the layers menue and made a duplicate layer. Then I used the erase tool to remove the can from the first layer, and converted it to B&W. Then sharpened and fixed the colors of the second layer. Then I flattened the image and did I final fix on the over all color.

The end result was what you see up there. Dismal as it may be. I am sure Gary has a more sophisticated way of doing it.

I'm in agreement with everyone else in regards to your can pic. Oversaturated and looks somewhat out of place. Not an effective shot but a good effort.
Perhaps trying a different subject all together may work better ? By the way everyone, omage is spelled homage.
