    Re: My macros

    Welcome to the Forum Cory!

Violet 2 is my favorite from this group. A general comment on the photos is that the light appears to be very harsh on most of them. I would try shooting the flowers on at a different time of day, or on an overcast day to avoid the harshness. Also, watch your backgrounds. I like Yellow as well, but it looks like there is a building in the BG that I feel takes away from the photo.

One other tip on getting feedback for your photos. You will get a much better response on your images if you post them one at a time, and post them directly in the thread. Most people wont take the time to follow a link to another site, and when you show a lot of images, it's hard to comment on all of them.

    Re: My macros

Welcome to the forum. Mike suggestions are good. Yes, it would help to post ome image per thread. I notice you focus and crop mainly with the Stigmas in mind. In this case, I like the idea of #2 where you have the flower opening up against the landscape and horizon in the bg. It would have helped alot if the light was better and less harsh. Shooting in hard, middle of the afternoon light makes for a very contrasty scene. Usually colors will wash out, highlights will blow out and lose detail, and shadows will be right behind your subjects which is un flattering.
Watch your backgrounds, get in tight and focus , and do it all early in the morning or very late in the afternoon.. . .not in the hard light of mid day.
    Looking forward to more.

    Re: My macros

    You already got great advice.

Some of the thing that help my macro photos is manual focus, a tripod & the time of day I shoot.

    Welcome to PR!

    Re: My macros

    Welcome.

Well, I see some good experimentation here. You've selectively focused and then blurred out other areas of the flowers. Not a bad strategy. But watch for too much blur, especially in the foreground areas. Blur is a great tool to emphasize particular areas of the photograph, but when you do this then the area you are emphasizing needs to be very interesting or special (sort of like if you come late to a party, you have to bring a great present). As Gary noted the lighting was a bit harsh that day - think early morning for flower shots, but overcast days are usually OK at any time.
