    My First Post...Feedback please...

    Hi,

Even though I have been following this website from some time now. This is my first post.

I always had interest in photography and it has grown more after I bought my first camera Canon S5. I know this is not a SLR and I cannot expect great things from this but for now this is what I could afford.

Also I have to learn techniques of using the camera before using SLR so I thought S5 would be a good start.

Anyway I am posting my first pic which I took today just few mins back. The moon was looking great and I started experimenting with aperture and shutter speed.

This is the best I could get. I would like to get some feedback on improving it.

The moon is the moon, it will always be at hyperfocal distance and not much you can do to 'improve' it in manual adjustments. Its either metered properly or not metered properly, yours looks metered properly. In order to get the very best moon shot, you'll simply have to improve your equipment, get a larger sensor (DSLR), a more powerful lens (500mm+), with great resolving power - then, point - meter correctly, and done. Not like the flash or a strobe could help you or hurt you with this ;).

I can't see the exif data so I can't see exactly what you did. The best metering options for the moon are ISO 100 f/8 (f/5 on a point and shoot), Manual focus to hyperfocal distance, snap away. You could do aperture priority with a tight spot meter, or manually expose it to proper speed (usually around 1/60-1/80).

You also may want to adjust white balance a bit, set it to a custom that really brings out the glowing color of the moon.

Though, there really isn't any artistic merit to a picture of the moon alone.

Good ISO choice, but I would stop it down a bit to f/5. You can either do this in manual mode (M) or Aperture priority (Av), just specifying the f-stop. It won't be a huge amount of difference (probably hardly noticable), but it will squeeze out the best possible resolution.

So, how did you post your picture a day before it was taken?

Ha ha... Actually currently I am in Houston TX, USA but the camera time is set to Bangalore, India. So the image time is actually showing the India time

About the Aperture, I will probably try again with f/5 today.

    Thanks for your suggestion....
