    My First Pictures (Wildlife)

Here are my first shots ive taken with my new shiny Pentax K-X. I didn't have a zoom lens, and these are some of the many. Other than my obvious issues with putting everything right in the middle of the picture (which im now working on), please critique and tell me where you think i could use some improvement. I hope you enjoy them!

    (hehe, hes picking his nose)

And, i added a firework for good measure. I was told the last one was a bad picture, so id also like some night-time criticism also. Again, i hope you appreciate them, and remember, it was my first time!

You need to keep an eye on those horizons and avoid chopping your subjects legs off for a start....

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I have no issues with you editing my photos

    Re: My First Pictures (Wildlife)

I'm a beginner too, so my observations have no basis in expertise or experience, just personal tastes.

In the first two photos I don't feel the size of the animals. They seem dwarfed, because the landscape surrounding them takes up more room than they do.

The third one is a good balance of animal vs landscape. I might like to see him on more of an angle rather than straight on, but getting animals to pose is kind of hard. LOL

The fourth, again I lose the feeling of the size of the elephants. (I really want to rub the baby's trunk, though!)

The fireworks are okay. The pic seems clear.

Think about holding the camera vertically for something like a giraffe. – Terry

    Re: My First Pictures (Wildlife)

i should add i was also on a moving vehicle. it was hard to get a good bearing on the pictures at times.

also, looking back maybe the vertical shot for the giraffe would be smart. i later realized i cut off half the animal.

Thanks for the tips. ill get it better next time!

All of them show good artistic eye. I agree w/ the others' comments about vertical format and chopping off of legs (and horns), and you're already on to that. The shots look 3D to me - very good.

Everyone has done a pretty good job of pointing out flaws, so I'm just going to say that I see some real promise here, and with a bit of practice, and some quick study of basic rules (suggestions) of composition, you'll be producing really fantastic images in no time
