    My first Panoramic

This is my first attempt at stitching a panoramic. I didn't realize that I was moving the camera up slightly with each frame so when stitching, the last frame has a piece out of it. I cropped it some but the other end of the field would be too small if I cropped any more. Let me know what you think. I think it is still dark even though I played with the color levels but it was nighttime so I dunno, what do you think?

Nice photo for a first attempt. Someday, I'm going to try my first attempt, but I'm not sure what my subject will be.

Very nice. This is fun isn't it? I use panos instead of buying a wide angle lens.

looks like you did a great job !! pano's are fun ...

my first was out in south dakota on vacation .. wasn't sure how i was going to bring it together... ended up doing a search and found a free program called "autostitch" its a demo program that never expires... does a great job .. the default settings produce a small pic so i have to go in and modify the settings to give me a 100% output ... the results are amazing though ... i have done a couple more since and really like doing it ...

Nice job, first attempt or not. I see a seam on the left but can't be to critical as I have never tried to stitch photos. Looks pretty good to me.

    Pretty good.
I'd suggest using vertical shots at a longer focal length (you'll need more shots) to have less distortion in the shot. My panoramas have usually not contained straight lines but the longer focal length makes the stiching easier too.

Wow! I never expected to get this much response! Thanks everyone, I am glad to see someone looked at it. Rocket Scientist- when I took these, I wasn't even sure my program would do it so I just took a stab thinking it was at least a good subject to try on. Don- Thanks so much it really is fun and cheaper LOL. WsW- This program actually came with the camera but has two options, I had to stitch because it wouldn't let me do the auto one. Coastal- yes I saw the seam too. I think because it is so dark, I am not lining up quite right. Chunk- thanks for the advise, I was thinking at the time I might want more to work with. I also think I used the Spherical option and not the parallel, would that make a difference? I don't usually do much with my pics except light/dark or tone levels and cropping. Thanks again!!

    Re: My first Panoramic

some things i;ve notice on how to improve stitching photos (i'm using photostitch that came with my canon).

Make sure you rotate the camera from a single point (tripod is best) usually in the middle of the lense under the body itself.

like was stated earlier use a vertical orientation to get a larger "short" side and reduce noise.

make sure you keep the focal length and the exposure the same in each photo (at least until you practice alot and get an extreme situation such as 1/2 the pano is facing the sun)

o yeah. um. yeah canon has a program that stitches your fotos for you. i have one in my photo gallery. if you shoot properly the program can be flawless. its just alot easier than stitching them all together yourself.

    Re: My first Panoramic

Thank you Dylan & Pict- I am searching for another project to try this out on. Maybe I can even figure out what the software is saying when it implies that the camera can take the pic with panoramic stitching in mind. hopefully soon. Thanks again.
PS-Pict- I saw those when you posted them. I want to know why you were on the roof? hehehe

The Canon S30 that I used to have had a panorama mode. It would display about 1/3 of the last shot on the LCD to assist in lining up the next shot. The Panasonic camera I use now does not have that feature so I have to pick out some feature in the scene and use that to ensure enough overlap. Vertical alignment is also more difficult when not using a tripod.

    Re: My first Panoramic

Hey Chunk- Yeah I did that when I took this one, used the banner lights in the stands to make sure I had something to spot. I have updated the software and firmware for the camera and have searched every option but cannot find what it is talking about so maybe the E series has that option but uses the same software. Next one I am going to plan ahead and take a tripod to be level plus make sure I am centrally located. The idea of a panoramic didn't occur to me until I was there. I am going to think up another subject and try again plus use the other option when stitching so it doesn't have such a fish-eye look. I just don't know enough about this camera or photography in general to utilize this camera properly, maybe one day! Thanks :yesnod:

    Re: My first Panoramic

hah we were shooting off of my friends roof while otehr people snowboarded in this hand rail in his back yard last year. i thoght it was a cool angle so i was up there. while i was tho i decided to do a pano. i didnt use any software in my camera. i used photostitch on the comptuer after. it doesnt really matter where you line them up as long as its level really. ther fun to do but most compuer screens dont allow you to look at them very well.

its really fun to do this with film and then paste the pictures together. i have one in particular that i want to frame. i cant scan it though becauuse its too wide!!

Haha Ahh to be young"er" again!! Not to point out that I am getting "old" or anything....Just not as likely to be on any roofs or up on top of anything too high these days just for a better angle. Hehe , I might sneak into something but not get up that high.
