    My 1st HDR

I messed around with Photomatix and got this result. I didn't have images prepared specifically for HDR use but produced different exposures in Lightroom from one JPG file.

    Re: My 1st HDR

The sky looks way to blue
the clouds - as usual when working of a single file - looks strange in hdr
details in the shade are visible, but not the underside of the roof, or the color of the leafs

HDR has a learning curve and I have nearly dropped it, unless I have a really really wide dynamic range, because I usually get better results by processing a single raw file - not hdr - just adjusting curves and brightness selectively.

    Re: My 1st HDR

This image looks like it might be a good candidate for HDR, but you really cannot get anything out of a single jpg because you can already see everything that the jpg has. A single RAW can be helped with HDR because there is information in the file that your monitor cannot display and HDR 'compresses' the tonal range to make it viewable. - Terry

Yes, you guys are correct. The sky color and luminosity could have been better. I was just experimenting but I liked the way it handled shadows and highlights. I could also see that some colors have changed, like tree limps turned green. I guess you have pay close attention to those details with HDR.

i think this is an outstanding HDR. i usually can't stand the ones that are over done. looking at this image, i wouldn't know it was an HDR. what ever you did, u managed to control it really well. looks like a perfectly exposed photograph, as an HDR should really look. really well done man.

edit: oh yeah, the clouds are a bit off. but i don't mind the rest of the sky.

    Re: My 1st HDR

I like super blue skies, but am not as fond of the way the blue darkens right near the cloud, kind of an anti-haloing. Early on I used to use Photomatix exclusively, but now I practically never use it alone. It is very rare that I get what I consider a usable shot with just a tone map. I usually have to blend it back in with non tone-mapped layers. You are off to a good start, but as pointed out, you really need a raw file to use the technique you wanted to.

INteresting. If you really want to go crazy, it might be fun to see what it looks like if the buildings are a tad solarized with that blue sky. I bet it would be cool that way too.
I love experimenting. Nothing is more boring the the same pic over and over again. I wish you greatness always.

I like the street part. But the sky is freaky. Maybe you could crop it.
