Nice action, but you're pinching off their extremities.
I find it hard to watch around the edges of the frame while I'm shooting.

    It's just practice, practice, practice.
I don't shoot every day, or even every week, so it takes me time to get into flow.
But it comes to me, I'm not concentrating on the panning, I'm seeing the whole frame without thinking about the AF point, or the car I'm tracking, and it feels easy.

    Paul

Pinching off their extremities? is that where they are cut off at the top and bottom of the shots? or something else?

Supid question i know but i am a beginner

Went to a game on sunday which i was going to photograph and their ref went sick and i ended up in the middle taking charge so no practice for me

Extremities = arms, legs, & head. First pic is a really good shot. The third and fifth could be better than the first if the were zoomed out enough that the players' entire bodies made it into the photo. You definately have the right idea, just need to watch the edges of the frame. You can always crop a shot smaller, but ya can't crop it bigger!

Yes, you've got all of them in there now, no cropped toes and fingertips.
They look a little soft, but that my be my glasses ...

I like the 2nd set of shots as far as extrmities go lol . I didn't know that term either till smartwombat edumacated us. I'm not well versed in action sports shot so i'll stop at this. but i like the 2nd set, only thing is with these types of shots i'd avoid backgrounds of cars or buildings, etc.

The second set is better as far as extremities go. Would like to see some new shots of another semi pro match, more action!

Nice just watch the focus and the depth of field. 3rd shot in OP is the best.

Will do more of the Semi Pro stuff when i get a Free Saturday as i Referee most saturdays i cannot shoot,

Regarding the DOF how can i Blur out the background more and get a better shot of the player, What would be the best setting as at the moment i am using the auto sports mode

The Shots of the Boys were from my sons league match on Sunday he is in the 2,4 & 5 shots
